AVM

LLS is a 27years old lady with arteriovenous malformation at her right hand. It is a congenital disease where the patient's artery connected directly to the vein without passing the capillaries. This abnormal connection is fragile and will bleed easily. During admission, she was bleeding profusely and her hemoglobin level dropped to a dangerous 4g/L (normal is about 10-12g/L)

This is my first time seeing a life blood spurting artery. Upon opening the bandage on the right hand, her blood spurt out like a burst pipe and the site still continue to bleed even the doctor apply direct pressure and inflated the blood pressure hand cuff to reduce blood flow to the site. I was just standing right beside the young girl staring at the blood... IT IS SO SCARY. The blood current is so strong. It is just like the garden host that started splashing without control but this time, it is blood coming out from it rather than water.

The surgeon looks so relax!!! I was pretending to be calm too. With my heart start pumping like mad and blood gushing to my face, I actually still able to talk to the patient and try to divert her attention. This is so unbelievable. Mr C just do a few stitches on the patient hand, and the wound stop bleeding. It is so amazing. The girl was then send to the operation theater for a proper procedure. Wish the girl will be fine.

Getting treatment in a government funded hospital is really depend on luck. If the patient is lucky and met some senior and experienced doctors like Mr C, I will be sure that they had done a lot of good deed in the past. The society nowadays judge the success of one person based on the car they are driving and the house they are staying. In order to support their status and their luxurious lifestyle, many doctors nowadays use their knowledge to earn money. I sincerely wish Mr C always healthy and happy. Hope he will have a long age and to safe more people.
